In order to eradicate poverty and AIDS in Africa and all around the world, the ONE Campaign is taking a stand, and the next stop is SIUE.
Annie Gill-Bloyer of the ONE Campaign will speak in the Morris University Center's Goshen Lounge at 5:30 p.m Thursday.
The event will be sponsored by SIUE's Political Science Association and was organized by Chris Stroot, the group's vice president.
"This program is designed to inform the university and students of how they can get involved in this fight," Stroot said.
"The ONE Campaign derives its name from the belief that allocating an additional one percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health care, clean water, education and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries," according to the ONE Campaign Web site.
ONE also calls for canceling debt, reforming trade and eliminating corruption for Third World nations.
The program was a continuation of the Political Science Association's events from last semester to raise awareness of genocide.
"We would like to help to increase awareness of the problems that these people are facing," Stroot said.
